Telangana Businessman's Daughter, 25, Dies in US; Kalyan Hit-and-Run Accused Held
A 25-year-old Telangana woman dies in Albany, New York, after reportedly suffering a heart attack, shortly after completing her MS and securing a job. Separately, police arrest a 23-year-old man in a fatal Kalyan hit-and-run case.
Akshita, daughter of Telangana businessman Nallamala Anand, had travelled to the United States for higher education. Anand is the president of the Khammam Traders Association. Akshita had been studying for her MS degree in New York for four years and was living in Albany with her brother, Akshay. She had recently completed her degree and secured a job.
According to information provided by the family, Akshita went for a walk outside her home after dinner on Friday night. She also spoke to her father, who was in India, over the phone. Shortly after the conversation ended, she suddenly collapsed, reportedly after suffering a heart attack.
When her brother Akshay found her, she was lying unconscious on the ground. He sought help from others and rushed her to a hospital. However, doctors declared her dead before she could be admitted.
Akshita's father, Nallamala Anand, said she had recently secured a job and was preparing to begin working. Her sudden death at this stage of her life has left the family deeply shocked.
Her family, which lives in Telangana's Khammam district, is now making arrangements to bring her body back to India for the funeral. The incident has shocked her relatives, friends and acquaintances, while the Telugu community has also been plunged into mourning.
In recent times, several people of Telugu origin living abroad have reportedly died from heart-related problems amid concerns about increasing stress and work pressure. Akshita's death has once again drawn attention to the health challenges faced by young people living overseas, although the precise cause of her death remains subject to confirmation.
In a separate incident in Maharashtra, a 26-year-old man, Sunil Koli, was killed after a speeding car hit him while he was out for a morning walk at Nikkinnagar Chowk in Kalyan West. Khadakpada police have arrested the alleged driver, identified as Komil Anil Gaikar, 23, after tracing him through technical investigation. The vehicle involved in the accident has also been seized.
Sunil had left home early in the morning for a walk. While he was walking along the roadside at Nikkinnagar Chowk in Kalyan West, a speeding car approaching from the opposite direction struck him. The impact threw him into a greeting arch erected beside the road, killing him on the spot.
Four hours after the accident, local residents spotted the young man lying in a pool of blood near the arch and immediately informed the police.
Investigators examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area and other technical evidence, which established that the incident was a hit-and-run case. Police subsequently began tracing the car involved in the collision.
On Friday, officers took Komil Gaikar into custody and questioned him for approximately four hours before arresting him. Rajendra Khedkar, senior police inspector at Khadakpada police station, confirmed the arrest.
Meanwhile, it emerged that the seized car bore the words “Member of Legislative Assembly” on it. Local discussions have also centred on allegations that efforts had been underway for the past two days to protect the accused because he is a relative of an office-bearer of a political party. These claims have not been independently established in the information provided.
The two incidents have brought attention to separate concerns: the sudden death of a young Indian woman who had completed her higher education and secured employment in the United States, and the fatal hit-and-run in Kalyan West that led to an arrest following a police investigation.
